Why Everyone Likes YouTube
“YouTube's popularity soars”
“Video ranks over one million views”
“Over one million videos posted on YouTube”
Created by three employees who used to work for PayPal, it soured in popularity ever since the time it was created in 2005. It was eventually bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion dollars-enough for those three employees to live on for the rest of their life.
When you search for YouTube on google, you will be surprised to learn that it has over 822,000,000 pages of information about it, which is actually more search results than for myspace and crazy games (any random crazy game) combined. It also has more total results than for video games.
Why is YouTube so popular? YouTube is extremely popular for one reason: It's free.
Everyone loves free things. So with a virtually free outlet for creativity, millions of people are attracted to the site. And why not? You can do anything you like on YouTube, as long as you place any questionable content (such as pornography or vicious behavior) for ages 18+. Copyrighted videos are the only other thing not allowed on the site.
Why did Google invest in YouTube? Because at the time, it was the second most popular site-compared to only Google. Soon, people suspect that YouTube will be the most popular - and that means the most visited - site on the entire WEB. (Note to PayPal - don't let any more employees quit, or they might invite something crazy!)
Do you remember the days when “MySpace-do you want to see my MySpace” or “MySpace, do you have one” were the most popular words out of everyone's mouth? Consider this: YouTube has surpassed MySpace in popularity.
Why is YouTube so popular? Again, because it is a free outlet for creativity. In may, its visiters out grew those of even BBC websites. In May of 2006, the second year it was created!
YouTube takes 3.9% of the Internet's visitors daily, with the second next to be Myspace at 3.35%, according To Alexa, which researches internet popularity. Its net worth at the time of the article? An estimated one billion. Its net worth at the time of the sale to google? $1.65 billion, compared to Myspace's $1 billion sale.
And just how long does the everyday visitor spend on YouTube? Well, according to Guardian CO.UK, twenty eight minutes. Not bad, considering that the entire site consists of videos.
